
Swine Flu Outbreak Spreads in USThe US
government has declared a public health emergency in response to the recent
outbreak of swine
flu that has sickened at least 40 people across five states. Many of those
infected recently visited Mexico, where there
are more than 1,600 reported cases and where the suspected death toll has
climbed to 149. The virus has also spread to Canada and Europe, raising fears of
a global flu
pandemic. While the swine flu has yet to claim a life outside of Mexico,
governments across the world are taking precautions to limit its spread, recommending
that citizens avoid non-essential travel to affected areas and screening
